Poker Chip Trick: The Chip Twirl

The chip twirl or the chip spin is a poker chip trick that, in its basic execution, involves twirling one out of three chips in one hand. It essentially involves pulling the middle chip down from a stack of three chips, twirling it 180 degrees, then sliding it back into place. Some people find that this is one of the easiest tricks to learn while some find it more or less difficult. Nevertheless, the great thing about the twirl is that when you master this poker chip trick, you can easily get around to getting skilled at its many advanced (and more difficult) variations. So, how does one successfully carry out the chip twirl?

First of all, get three poker chips and hold them using your index finger and thumb. Then, slightly angle the chips upward using your index finger so you can place your middle finger next to it.

Using your middle finger, feel the center chip so you can drag it down. Then, pull down that center chip with your middle finger against your thumb and catch it with your ring finger. With your ring finger, move that center chip away from your thumb so it's held by your index and ring fingers only.

Then, use your middle finger to twirl that chip 180 degrees. Next, move your middle finger away and use your ring finger to slide it up back to its original position as you pull down the other chips to meet it halfway. And that's the poker chip trick called the chip twirl.

As mentioned earlier, just by learning this basic poker chip trick, one can easily become proficient at its many variations. For example, you can use more than three chips so you can twirl more than one poker chip, or you can modify the chip's return after the twirl by flipping it up before you drop it back in, etc.
